What Happens After You Land

Travellers on flights from within the Schengen area walk straight through to baggage reclaim. Passengers arriving from outside the Schengen zone must clear border control first.
EES Biometric Border Control at Budapest Airport
From 2025, the EU's Entry/Exit System (EES) requires biometric registration (fingerprints and a photo) for non-EU/non-EEA travellers at Budapest Airport. This affects passengers from the USA, UK, Canada, Australia and most non-EU countries. Allow extra time at passport control on your first visit.

Baggage Reclaim and Customs
Once through passport control, head to the baggage reclaim hall, where the screen above your carousel shows your flight number. If your bag is delayed or missing, report it at the airline's lost-and-found desk before leaving the hall. After collecting your luggage you pass through customs: use the green channel if you have nothing to declare, or the red channel if you are carrying goods above the duty-free allowance.

Getting from the Airport to the City
Once you exit into the arrivals hall you have several ways into town. The 100E Airport Express runs 24/7 straight to the city center, official taxis wait at the marked rank, and pre-booked transfers meet you at Arrivals.
